Tony Leo’s marathon radio show on Saint FM Community Radio has raised nearly three thousand pounds to help keep the station on air.

The veteran presenter began broadcasting at 7am on Saturday 6 July 2013 and finally brought the show to a close 26 hours later.

Online listening figures were “amazing”, according to the station’s UK-based website manager, Johnny Clingham.

Johnny, who lives in Chippenham, Wiltshire, has since been working to upload Tony’s recent radio documentary on the disastrous fire aboard the Good Hope Castle in 1973, which led to passengers drifting in lifeboats.

It is hoped the programme can be made available to web users shortly. There are also plans to broadcast it on the island again.
