Hi from Simon. I’m standing at my computer after walking 101 miles in 45 hours and 27 minutes, hoping some of my readers will feel my efforts deserve a little sponsorship for St Helena causes.
Too much of my weekend, it must be admitted, was spent at checkpoints grazing on excellent food provided by the wonderful Long Distance Walkers Association. None of the time was spent sleeping.
We started started at Wadebridge in Cornwall, walked an arc round Bodmin Moor, crossed the Tamar in an eerie morning mist, traversed Dartmoor, then slogged up far too much road and stony track for the last 20 miles from Ashburton to Teignmouth.
The first 80 miles, I did for pleasure. The last 20 miles, mostly in darkness, were rather difficult.
If anyone is kind enough to sponsor me for this madness, then the money will be split between Saint FM – the independent radio station for St Helena that has been revived by its own listeners – and SHAPE, the island charity that helps disabled people.
