‘Cautious support’ for wirebird resort (comment)
Disagreements have broken out among experts over a planned “eco resort” on St Helena – with new habitat and rodent controls to overcome breeding failures for critically endangered wirebirds.
As I read the reactions of the people who live in St. Helena, there is cautious support for the Shelco proposals. Anything that might bring the island some economic security has to be worth considering. And it’s not as if the current attempts to save the wirebirds at Broad Bottom have had any real success (see Decline that led to wirebird breeding failures). Maybe we should try the Shelco suggestion. But then, what do our views matter? We only live here.
