Edie and Joe receive MBEs in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Edie Timm of St Helena and Joe Green of Tristan da Cunha have both been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for 2012.

They appear in the official list as follows:

Mrs Edith May Timm, formerly Chief Education Officer, St Helena, for services to education and to the community in St Helena.

Joseph Gordon Green, mechanic and voluntary worker, Tristan da Cunha, for services to the community in Tristan da Cunha.

Joe’s honour comes only a week after he retired as Tristan’s “Mr Fix-It” at the age of 65.

If it moves on land or water, Joe Green has been the man to sort it out for Tristan da Cunha’s public works department, writes head of department Dave Hendrikse on the website.

But as of Friday, 8 June 2012, Joe is officially a man of leisure.

His last big project before retirement at 65 was refurbishing the island barge, Atlantic Wave. Pictures, and a tribute, appear on the Tristan website, here.
