The Laws of Media and Private Enterprise
• When a Newspaper is no longer useful to readers it will no longer be purchased.
• If Readers are no longer important to the Advertisers – they will not Advertise.
• Government no longer Advertisers in the Independent.
Is it because the Independent’s readers are no longer important to the Government?

Have you yet realised that the President and Vice President of The St Helena Chamber of Commerce, will, after their resignation from the Chamber nextweek – have taken up senior positions at the newly formed Media and Broadcasting Authority.
A member of any Chamber would consider this a straight conflict of interest.
Who on St Helena is demanding their resignation?

Hi. You don’t spell out why this would be a conflict of interest. The chamber is not a government body – it represents the private sector, and it must stand for the principle of freedom to engage in enterprise, which is what the SHBC aims to be.
I think you mean that there’s a conflict because they’re setting up a government funded body in competition with a private sector one, when they’re supposed to represent the interests of the private sector. If that’s the case, and you want to spell it out, it will be a welcome contribution to the debate, but I don’t think I can run this without that clarification. I’d be happier identifying you, but would respect anonymity if you insist.
best wishes – and thank you so much for this.
