A move to increase the fine for letting goats stray on to Crown land is to go before legislative councillors on 13 September.
A rise from 25 pence to £250 has been proposed, in the hope that a “more meaningful” deterrent will help protect vulnerable plants and trees.
The fines would also apply to sheep for the first time.
LegCo will also debate a proposal to include cats and dogs in November’s “animal census” on St Helena.
A goat is worth at most £50, so if your goat is found straying you simply disown it. Or are we going to microchip goats and sheep now as well as dogs and cats?
